Platte Clove Road Sign
By Chas | May 31, 2009 · Leave a Comment
This is a simple snapshot of a road sign on the top potion of Platte Clove Road. I have taken previous photos of this area in years past to show how the warnings about Platte Clove Road have been addressed. In this particular photo I notice that the sign has a dent. I wonder if kids damage or attempt to take these signs.
Platte Clove Road Constuction Sign

This temporary construction sign was placed to side of Platte Clove Road near the stone bridge located at Devils Kitchen. While it warned of a detour several miles ahead, it was no where near Platte Clove. It did bring back memories of when Platte Clove Road was closed for about a month in 2008 due to construction and one had to drive a different route altogether.

The third photo shows the Devils Kitchen 100 year old bridge with the waterfall found underneath.

This particular photo of mine was inspired by a fantastic photographer named Vincent Bilotta. After shooting this photo- it inspired me to take this photo.
Vincent Bilotta has some amazing photographs of the Catskills and his photography has made me look at locations and trails differently.

Pictures from a decent into lower Platte Clove from Devils Kitchen.
The water flow in Devils Kitchen appeared to be significantly less than on the previous visit two weeks ago.
This visit my father and I walked under the stone bridge. I also traveled into the ravine known as Hells Hole.
My father can be seen in the top photo on the right side.
I like the second photo because of the natural growth and overall composition of the image.
The third photo showcases how steep Platte Clove can be.

After nearly a 3 year hiatus I returned to Kaaterskill Falls. I can not believe it was that long between visits.
I was very impressed with Plattekill Falls strong water flow just days before and thought about how Kaaterskill Falls water flow would be. From the very start of Kaaterskill Trail judging by Bastion Falls I knew the water flow was going to be great.
When my father and I reached the Kaaterskill Falls parking area a bit later in the day I was so pleasantly surprised to see only 1 other car in the lot. As we got our things together another car pulled into the parking area. Still only 3 cars (including us)- in less than a month this area with be packed with cars as summer fast approaches.
As we hiked in to Kaaterskill Falls my father and I stopped a few times to take photos. During this time several people passed us as they themselves were heading to Kaaterskill Falls.
It was a quick hike to Kaaterskill Falls and the trail was in great condition. As seen in my recent photos the water flow at Kaaterskill Falls is strong and very impressive.
