New Feature- Photo Tags and Photo Pages

A new feature has been added to CatskillSearch earlier this year. It has been hidden for the most part and probably easily overlooked as it has been slowly added to this website. All the photographs on CatskillSearch have been tagged. The photo tags can be found at the bottom of the first page and also with the black menu bar that runs along the top of the page.

When viewing a specific photo tag page it becomes easier to browse and navigate all images within the topic.

Over the next few weeks this feature will be better implemented so that overall navigation is easier and browsing of images is quicker and more rewarding.

Lucy Snaps

Random snapshots of Lucy:

Lucy looking out from the back of the car. She is probably wondering if she going to be able to get out and look the area around as well.
lucy 01 Lucy Snaps

This was taken in the early part of the year. It is rare that Lucy is has a long leash attached around the house. Can’t remember why she has the leash but probably a large tractor is out mowing the field. Lucy sticks her tongue out in this photo probably because she wants to run alongside the tractor.

Lucy knows we are about to leave for an outing and wants to go. Lucy does not want to leave the area around the car because she would like to go as well.

Tribute in Light 2011

tribute in light 2011 brooklyn bridge freedom tower Tribute in Light 2011

The Tribute in Light is an installation of 88 searchlights placed next to the site of the World Trade Center to create two vertical columns of light in remembrance of the September 11 attacks.

The photograph was taken from the Brooklyn Bridge Park as the moon sets over the Manhattan skyline and the Brooklyn Bridge. The sun rises from the opposite direction shining onto downtown Manhattan and the East River. Construction continues on One World Trade Center (Freedom Tower) which is lit Red, White, and Blue (blue and white can be seen in photo).

One World Trade Center (Freedom Tower) is scheduled to be completed in 2013 and it will be the tallest building in the United States, with its radio antenna reaching a symbolic height of 1,776 feet in reference to the year of American independence. (Source- Wikipedia One World Trade Center).

Tribute in Light 2010

The image below was taken on September 11, 2010 from the Brooklyn Bridge Park in Brooklyn. The upwards lights shining high from lower Manhattan over the Brooklyn Bridge is the Tribute in Light. Each beam of light represents a tower from the World Trade Center Twin Towers.

The Tribute in Light first ran as a temporary installation from March 11 to April 14, 2002. The Tribute in Light was launched again in 2003 to mark the second anniversary of the September 11th attack on the World Trade Center. As of 2010,  the Tribute in Light has been repeated every year on September 11. It was announced that 2008 would be the Tribute in Light’s  final year. The tribute was continued in 2009 and on December 17, 2009 it was confirmed that the Tribute in Light would continue through to the tenth anniversary of the September 11th attacks in 2011. Tribute in Light and September 11, 2001

tribute in light Tribute in Light and September 11, 2001

The photo in this post is from the 2008 Tribute in Light which is held on September 11th in remembrance of the attacks on that day in 2001 . In 2008 New York City had an art exhibit where the city built make-shift waterfalls across the city (mostly on the East River). The waterfalls officially began flowing on June 26, 2008. The NYC Waterfalls ran from 7 am to 10 pm (under illumination after sunset), until October 13, 2008 (Source: New York City Waterfalls). One of these waterfalls can be observed on the left tower of the Brooklyn Bridge. This photo of the Tribute in Light was taken from the Manhattan Bridge.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Wishing everybody a Happy Thanksgiving!

I went to Wordcamp NYC (WordPress the power behind CatskillSearch) and had a great a time. Everybody I spoke to at the event was very nice and helpful. Hopefully there will be another in 2010.

I have begin upgrading the Gallery features of CatskillSearch. Catch a sneakpeak at CatskillSearch: Gallery.

New Content

After a short hiatus I will returning very shortly with many new photos. I also have several new 360s and a video from Devils Kitchen.

In the last few weeks I have been busy behind the scenes with my other photography website named Yellowecho. (Link: Yellowecho.com) With Yellowecho I completely overhauled the look and style of the website. I am very pleased with the new display settings of my 360s. Also I am very impressed with the WP Geo plug-in that enables me to GPS my photos and plot them onto a Google Map. Check out my photo map on Yellowecho. (Link: GPS Photo Map) I hope to make some of the changes that I made on Yellowecho on CatskillSearch as well.

Recent photo additions on Yellowecho have been the Tribute in Light. The Tribute in Light is a temporary yearly memorial remembering September 11, 2001. (Link: Tribute in Light @ Yellowecho)

Join a Community

CatskillSearch.com is currently a single person operation and I am looking for artists (professional or amateur) to become ‘guests’ on my website.

If you’re visual artist (Painter/ Photographer) with Catskill themed work I will create a page on my website to promote your work- in return it will enhance this website with content. I will post a portfolio of your images with information regarding your work and if applicable a link to your website including a bio. Professional or amateur is ok- Send me an email through the Contact page expressing interest. Provide links to your work if applicable. Membership is absolutely free. This a good opportunity to showcase your work on a high traffic website specific to the Catskills.

New Photos

I have updated the ‘Photo Gallery’ with new photos. Many of these photos are not artistic but were taken to detail the historic record of the present day and the past. Much of the recent uploads showcase the Catskill railroads that once run throughout the region.

At this time I have not had a chance to add descriptions to many of the photos. In the coming days I hope to add descriptive information and data to help explain each photo.

Be sure to check out the ‘Photo Gallery’ and click 2009 to see all the recent photos in chronological order.

Rain

The rain keeps on coming. The water flow on many of the creeks has been vast because of this weather.

Warning: The Catskills can be a deadly place. Only follow marked trails by New York State or the DEC. Wear proper shoes.
