As a young kid (7 yrs. old last time I was there) in the 50’s we used to stay at the Police Camp. Fond memories and we did a little organized hiking but forbidden to go in the woods on our own due to the bears. Was reaquanted as I met someone from Saugerties who frequented Platte Cove snowmobilling and knew everything about the area. NICE!
Hope some day to get to revisit the area. I recall how treacherous that road was, particularly if you were going south from Platte Cove to West Saugerties.

It would be nice to add a link to north-south campground. State run campgrounds are the best in my experience and I’ve stayed here many times. All reservations are through reserve-america.com and there are some nice pictures, maps and details about the campground on my website here:

We have some terrific state campgrounds, all with clean water and beautiful trails. Our personal favorite is Mongaup Pond – 275 acres of wilderness, with a 122 acre pond. They have a boat launching area, canoe rentals, a handicapped accessible fishing dock, a fish hatchery, and scenic mountain trails. Head there for some of the most breathtaking fall foliage viewing ever.

Great compositions!

The Catskills are a favorite destination of mine–love to hike there!

A couple questions:
1. ‘Just a curiosity–what equipment do you use for these photos? Do you carry a tripod with you in the backcountry? Can you recommend one?

2. Would you consider making some of your shots available in high resolution for computer backround landscapes?

I do not know if Red Falls can be swam in at this point. I do know that parking is very restrictive now as there are many new ‘No Parking’ signs in the vicinity of Red Falls. I have been told that the new ‘No Parking’ areas have been enforced with parking tickets.

Is red falls still able to be swam in??
Is it private property and if you go there will they give you a real hard time? do they check to see if people are there alot??? i want to go back so bad and now im hearing all this stuff… please get in touch.. thanx
