A gallery of photographs from a visit to Mount Utsayantha. Classic views previously photographed along with a few different angles. It was clear on top of the mountain and the road was in good shape. No snow on the road. There was a slight bit of snow in some open areas on top. It was windy and noticeable cooler in the cabin of the fire tower.

Decided to drive to Mount Utsayantha as the clouds looked very lovely throughout the day. Arrived at the top of Mount Utsayantha about 30 minutes before this particular image was taken. All the photos prior to this image looked good and I was happy.

I was already back at the car when the rosy light appeared and gazed over Stamford. The Thomas Cole sundown lasted a few minutes. I stepped back to the overlook and was able to photograph several images before the light watchfully dissipated allowing the stars to sparkle through the ever moving clouds.

Classic view from the Mount Utsayantha Fire Tower cabin. The photo shows the Mount Utsayantha observation building with Stamford, NY in the background.

Compare the Mount Utsayantha View differences from October 9, 2010 to a similar photo taken on October 19, 2008. First – The October 19, 2008 was taken much later in the day as the shadows and lighting is different. Most strikingly the rocks to the left of the Mount Utsayantha Fire Tower have been added and a few other rocks have been moved.

I have been thinking about taking a night photo for several weeks from the top of Mount Utsayantha. Unfortunately when I traveled to the top of Mount Utsayantha on this night fog had covered Stamford below. The moon while nearly full would not rise for another few hours which would have helped brighten Stamford for the photograph. It was very dark and I myself had trouble seeing a few feet in front of me as the photo below is a long exposure. I believe the lights in the horizon are Oneonta and Cooperstown.

There are several distinct lights- if you know of other cities/ towns that might be the cause of the light pollution please write to me and let me your answer.
